Red Checkerboard Pigeon Discus (Symphysodon aequifasciatus)
Red Checkerboard Pigeon Discus — Symphysodon aequifasciatus
Structured pattern. Refined intensity.
The Red Checkerboard Pigeon Discus is a precision-bred show strain combining rich red coloration with intricate maze-like checkerboard patterning. A warm orange to crimson base is overlaid with tight red tracery that spreads evenly across the body and fins, creating a symmetrical, high-contrast design. When fully matured and conditioned, the red deepens dramatically, giving the fish a polished, almost lacquered appearance.
Discus originate from the calm floodplain waters of the Amazon basin, and that composed nature remains. The Red Checkerboard Pigeon glides slowly and deliberately, hovering in formation when kept in groups. Rather than aggression, they bring elegance and structure to a display aquarium.
Growing to 6–8 inches, they thrive in stable, warm environments and quickly become aware of feeding routines, often gathering calmly at the front glass.
